OK. Highlight a portion of text on the screen. Using your mouse... no, not the little furry things, you know that object in your hand that you use to click on things on your computer screen... using your mouse, position your cursor at the starting point of the text you wish to copy. Now click and drag your cursor highlighting the text you wish to copy.
Once highlighted, now concentrate on the keyboard... you know, the thing will all them letters on pressable buttons.
Press and hold the "Ctrl" button and then press "C". This will "COPY" the highlighted text the magical place in your computer called the "clipboard" (short term memory).
OK?
Good. Now for the "pasting".
Once you're inside a window where you can actually type (like this text window to reply to posts), hold down that "Ctrl" key again and press "V".
This does the wonderfully delightful task of "pasting" the contents of the computer's "clipboard" into the text area.
