Where do I go, Mello? Do you know any sweet places that are
a)not too expensive
b)intimate
c)quality
d)easy to reach by metro (I'm happy to walk but not much more than a half-hour)

Nate Willy and the Crowd Pleasers at Bob and Barbara's were the shit, but Nate Willy's dead now.

There's a place at 1315 Sampson St that used to be called Ludwig's Beer Garten that has some god awful jazz on weekend nights.

Actually, Bob and Barbara's is apparently the place to go on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. The Crowd Pleasers still play sans Nate Willy.

Ludwigs is totally gone RIP

Club Habana is on 20something and chestnut and that's a hotspot. Ortlieb's, too.
Let me ask some of my friends, lots of them are in the jazz scene. I'm not too into jazz so I avoid. I'll get back to you...

Cool, thanks Geek and Krsna, and for the further inquiries Geek.
Krsna, I didn't realize you lived in Philly too. That's sweet. No wonder you and the Geek hang so much. I thought you were just a smooth operator. Edited Wed Feb 11 2009, 01:23pm

I'm... across the Delaware. I used to visit whenever I could last year because that's where my lady friend lived, but now she's moved off the East coast so I've been staying put pretty much this year.

This weekend I have to make some serious headway in my bullshit work. I'm several hundred pages behind in reading, and since my aunt is visiting the weekend after this one, I'm out of commission that weekend too. I assume weekends work best for you guys, but I don't know when I'm going to be very free in the immediate future. How much advance warning do you guys need? Could I just make a "I'm a-coming over, look out!" post on a Wednesday? Thursday? Friday? Or do you guys plan things more than a few days in advance?

Man, I can't get out at all these days! I will say I'm planning on being out on the town in about two months or so however.
