Okay, a bit of background information.... I work front desk at a hotel that has a bar attached to it. The bar is closed on Sundays, because selling alcohol on Sundays is illegal in my town. Moving on...
I was working seconds tonight, and a man came in around 9 pm. He looked pretty disheveled, and kind of pissed off. He comes up to the desk and wants to know why the bar is locked.. so I explain the no alcohol on Sundays deal to him. And the guy goes nuts. He starts screaming at me that I have to open the bar for him, he just wants a beer, yadda yadda. After I tell him that I won't unlock the bar, and couldn't if I wanted to because I have no keys for the place, he tells me that he's going to bash my head in... and produces from his pocket a Zippo lighter - apparently his weapon of choice.
At this point, I decide to switch tactics. I tell him that I need to make a phone call to see if I can get the bar opened for him, and walk into the back office - where I call the police. By the time they get to the hotel, the crazy man is repeatedly punching the front desk counter. I come out from the back office, and the crazy man points at me, telling the cop - "See her? That's the stupid bitch that won't open the bar for me! I'm going to bash her head in!" The cop just smiles and nods, and places the man under arrest.
*shakes head* I've dealt with many interesting people in this particular job, but tonight is the first time I've ever been threatened with a Zippo lighter. I guess there's a first time for everything....
Thanks! It was the only thing I could think of that would put more distance between us, and that would hopefully pacify him a little... Worked like a charm

No, she handled it PERFECTLY ... She mentioned to me later that it was a homeless guy from the railways who happened to be wandering around her town ...
This guy was the first to actually scare me. I've been at the hotel for about a year and a half now, and have dealt with my share of pissed off guests. Most of the time, these are normally reasonable people, who have just had a bad experience and want it fixed - no problem. This guy was just completely off his rocker to begin with, and became violent when things didn't go his way - that's what scared me.
This type of situation really makes me wish that I had access to a cordless phone behind the desk - all of the phones are up front. I called the cops from my cell phone.
