I broke down and bought the rather illogically titled "Half-Life 2: Episode One" a few days ago. It's all kinds of awesome and all, but I think I'm almost finished with it already. Then again, it only cost 1/3 as much as HL2 when it was fresh off the presses.
And then, of course, I'm gonna play it again. And then maybe another time with those commentary things. Since the alternative, given recent history, would have been to play Half-Life 3 about 20 years down the line, I guess it's a good way to do things.
It's still a bit early to say since HL is the first major name to try on the episodic thing (SiN doesn't count, they suck), but what to the rest of you think? Are smaller cheaper games more often a good idea? I just worry that if it becomes too popular, developers will become afraid of big projects.
