I know you have a green Marmot anorak, is that the Precip? I have a slight windfall this weekend and was thinking about a trip to REI. I want a nice, light shell/rain shell, maybe the Precip shell and full side-zip pants. Thoughts?
My current one isn't a precip. My last precip was cut off by paramedics. I was pretty pissed about that - especially since it wasn't like I was in distress or anything when they were called. Just sleeping drunk in a public space.
I did have a precip before though and it was the #1 piece of outwear I sold when I worked at Galyons. I liked it a lot - kept you dry as advertised, had pit zips and the pockets were vents too. It's durable and relatively light weight. I think if you compare cost to performance, it's one of the ebst deals on the market.
They used to make it with a mesh liner, too, which made it more comfortable if you were going to wear it with a short sleeve shirt. I don't know if they sell that one anymore though. I think they may have dropped it, because most people chose the weight savings over the slight improvement in comfort.
It's definitely a good buy. I really don't think you can ever go wrong with Marmot (at least until they pull a North Face and start catering to fashion over outdoor wear). It's just as nice & does its job just as well as similar, much more expensive jackets made with GoreTex.

And I agree with your comments about North Face. Most of the good name brands have gone to shit. When I see street bangers wearing North Face I know they've lost quality. Even GoLite was sold to some yuppie company and their trail runners are good for about 200 miles now. Glad I listened to you and bought Merrell Moab Ventilators. Going to get a pair of waterproof mids next month. Get my tent finished and I'm ready.
